Paul Robeson was a true “Renaissance Man” with impressive talents in music, sports, drama, and political/social change. He was a great African-American hero. Unfortunately, in the 1950’s Paul Robeson was persecuted for his political views.
(Chorus:) Oh, what a powerful voice, ringing out all over the land Oh, Mr. Paul Robeson, singing out and taking a stand
A hundred years ago, a baby boy was born, over in Princeton town and he grew up singing for freedom and justice Oh what a glorious sound!
(Chorus)
On the stage, on the screen, on the football field - Seemed like nothing that he could not do But it was singing the songs of freedom and struggle, where his spirit really rang true
(Chorus)
He said, everyone must make a choice to be a slave or to walk free You can go whichever way you want, but freedom is for me
(Chorus)
Paul Robeson’s gone, but his voice remains, you can hear it ringing over the hills When you sing out for freedom and you fight for justice, his spirit is living still!
