Polar Bears
We learned a lot of new facts when we wrote this song for the Detroit Zoo’s "Arctic Ring of Life" exhibit. With the strings and brass, we feel like we’ve got a whole orchestra on this one!
(Chorus:)
Polar bears have hollow hair
It keeps them warm in the arctic air
So let us sing about the king
Mighty hunter of the Arctic Ring
You might think polar bears are white
Well actually, that’s not quite right.
Their skin is black, but they look white,
because their hair reflects the light -
(Chorus)
Polar bears do not need to hear (Say what?)
They use their nose, more than their ears
Polar bear cubs stay very near
They live with mom for the first 3 years -
(Chorus)
Polar bears do not hibernate
They run on the ice to find their mate
As for swimming - they are great
They search for seals off the Bering Strait -
(Chorus)
Polar bears are big and strong
Their claws are sharp and their stride is long
But the ice is melting, and it feels so wrong
They need our help, or they'll soon be gone -
(Chorus)
(repeat last phrase 2x)
