David wrote this hard-rocking song about superheroes and superpowers for the 2015 library summer reading program theme of “Every Hero Has a Story.” This song got a great reaction last summer. We get some very interesting answers when we ask kids what superpower they would choose, including “kindness,” “butterfly powers,” “cleaning powers,” “the power to teleport to the library,” and the strangest: “the power to turn everything into muffin-tops.”
I Wanna Be a Superhero
(Chorus:)
I wanna be a superhero
I am so much more than zero
I wanna help those who live in fear-oh
I wanna be a superhero!
If I had a superpower
I'd have the power of flight.
Soaring high above the earth
I'd help to do what's right
If I had a superpower
I'd be super strong.
I wouldn’t use my strength to fight
but to help other people along (Chorus)
My power would be invisibility
I would not be seen
I’d use my power to set things right
and then I’d get away clean
I would be like Spiderman
with a cool disguise
I’d climb high and shoot my webs
and catch all those bad guys (Chorus)
If I had a superpower -
I would freeze things with my hands.
I'd shoot ice out from my arms
and refreeze the Arctic lands
If I had a superpower
I’d be super fast
I could speed to someone’s aid -
I’d be a blur as I zoomed past
(Bridge:)
Calling out around the world,
the galaxy and the nation
I’m gonna be a super-reader
and fire my imagination!
(Chorus)
