It’s a Mystery to Me
Written for the Library Summer Reading theme 2007: "Get a Clue @ the Library". We used this song to start off our show that year entitled "The Case of the Missing Book".
(Chorus:)
I’m searchin’ everywhere for my mystery book
I’ve tried every place, I don’t know where else to look
I don’t have a clue about where my book could be
I don’t know what will happen - it’s a mystery to me
I was a reading a great mystery from the library in town
It was so exciting that I couldn’t put it down
That book really had me on the edge of my seat
then I heard my parents call - it was time for me to eat
I didn’t want to stop, but my parents insisted
I inhaled my dinner - if you blinked, you would have missed it
I ran back to my room to start reading again
But that book could not be found where I was sure it just had been -
(Chorus)
I went to ask my sister where my mystery could be
But she just made a face and said, "Don’t ask me!"
I went and asked my dad if he could help me with my search
He said he was too busy - he just left me in the lurch
I asked my mom to help me find my missing book
But she just said I’d find it, if I really tried to look
I’m begging for assistance - I’ll get down on my knees
I’ve got to learn what happens - won’t someone help me, please?
(Chorus)
(Inst. - Chorus)
(Bridge:)
Q. Did you leave it at school? A. Do you think I’m a fool?
Q. Is it under your bed" A. I looked there already!
Q. Is it somewhere in your room? A. I fear this search is doomed!
Q. Is it under there? A. Under where? Q. I made you say underwear! Ha! A. (groan)
(Chorus), I don’t know where to find it - it’s a mystery to me!
[Spoken:] Oh, THERE it is! Nevermind...
