Mysterious Drawer, The
Inspired by an idea from Jacob (11) and Carina (8) Rosenberg, winners in Two of a Kind’s Song Idea Contest; also incorporating ideas from Hannah Kusnitz (12), Joshua Krauth Harding, Alexis Vincent (8) and Lydia Vorodi (9)
Each time I pass the mysterious drawer
I wonder w-w-wonder w-w-what is in store
Magnetic forces are drawing me near
What I’ll discover isn’t so clear
Still, I’m curious that is true
Why it beckons I haven’t a clue
The strange compartment looks deep and wide
I can’t help but imagine there’s a secret inside
(Chorus:)
Oh, oh the mysterious drawer
Oh, oh the mysterious drawer
In my mind I open the drawer
Pint-sized lions begin to roar
Out come little blue fairies that know how to fly
Next, a knight in shining armor, with his sword raised high
A tiny new world, hidden so deep
Robots and racecars on mountains so steep
A purple elephant from Mars, singing ABC
A hammer-head shark swimming in aÖtree?
(Chorus)
A circus band with drums going boom boom boom
A witch on a broomstick circling the room
Marshmallow clouds, puffy and white
Two green chickens flying a kite
An octopus whose kisses turn bad guys good
A silly frog who misses jumping to a piece of wood
Some wayward socks finally finding each other
A hamster named Hazel, and Basil - her brother
(Chorus)
Should I pry the desk open to see at last?
Will I be happy or feel downcast?
I approach the drawer quite cautiously
Now I’m not sure that I want to see
It’s probably filled with worthless stuff
Broken glasses or a powder puff
Paper clips, pencils, or toys for the cat
Though I like to imagine it’s better than that
(Chorus)
If I open it now I’ll lose all the fun
The fantasies that have just begun
Perhaps it’s better to let it be
Then the drawer can remain a mystery.
(Chorus)
