Purple Glasses
Inspired by an idea from Shira and Hannah Goldstein, winners in Two of a Kind’s Song Idea Contest. Their idea was beautifully simple: "a girl has to get glasses, and then she finds purple ones."
When I found out that I needed glasses
it almost made me cry.
Some kids already called me names
now they could add "4 eyes"
But I couldn’t read the homework
my teacher wrote on the board
My blurry vision had grown so bad
it couldn’t be ignored
One afternoon, I went with my mom
down to the eye-glass store
She didn’t tell me, but I knew
what we were shopping for
There were so many different models
colors, shapes and styles
Suddenly, I saw the ones
I couldn’t help but smile
(Chorus:)
Oh, those purple glasses
Make me feel like a star
Oh, those purple glasses
Spectacles, spectacular
Oh, those purple glasses
Now I can clearly see
Oh, those purple glasses
They are the ones for me
On Monday morning, I wore my glasses
My heart was beating fast
I didn't know if kids would tease
like they did in the past
But I felt so good in my purple glasses
I didn’t really care
It’s so silly how some kids get
'bout what you choose to wear.
(Chorus)
Now when I read, there is no more squinting
or wrinkling up my brow
It makes me want to sing out loud:
"I can see clearly now!"
Everything comes into focus
It’s such a colorful world
That cute boy even said "Cool specs!"
Feel like a brand new girl
(Chorus)
They are the ones for me
These are the ones for me.
