Room to Spread Her Wings

Lyrics: David wrote this song about the endangered Bali Mynah bird for the Detroit Zoo.
Bali Mynah calling - Bali Mynah
The Bali Mynah was a pet of choice
prized for her beautiful singing voice
A small white bird, with a mask of blue
'Round the island of Bali, she flew
Poaching took its toll, and along with that
clearing forests stole the Mynah’s habitat
From thousands, their numbers swiftly declined -
Only 40 left in the wild
(Chorus:)
She needs room to spread her wings
She needs room to spread her wings
She can’t stand to live in a cage so small
and now there are very few left at all
She needs room - to spread her wings.
So the Bali Mynah was brought to the zoo
It was one of the only things left to do
So she wouldn’t disappear from the face of the earth
But the cages were too small at first -
(Chorus)
Then along came the free-flight aviary
Bringing space to fly to the Mynah of Bali
A place to live and mate and grow
Someday, back to Bali she’ll go -
(Final Chorus:)
She has room to spread her wings
She has room to spread her wings
She won’t be cooped up like the days way back when
and the Bali Mynah are rising again
She has room - to spread her wings.
