Lyrics: "Swimmy" is a great children’s book about the power of working together. We think of this as our underwater organizing song!
(Chorus:)
Swimmy knew if we all get together we could put the big fish on the run
Swimmy knew if we all get together we could be bigger than anyone
Swimmy knew, Swimmy was smart
Swimmy had brains and Swimmy had heart
Swimmy knew if we all get together we could put the big fish on the run
Once upon a time a school of fish lived in a corner of the sea
They were all red, except for one who was as black as black as can be
He swam faster than all the others
He swam faster than his sisters and brothers
His name was Swimmy and he was happy in his corner of the sea
One bad day a tuna fish came - swift, fierce and hungry for food
He swallowed all the red fish in one big gulp. He was nasty, ugly and rude
Swimmy swam, Swimmy was fast
Swimmy escaped and was free at last
Swimmy was scared, lonely, and sad, but the beautiful sea changed his mood
[Spoken:]
He saw a medusa made of rainbow jelly
A lobster walking about like a water-moving machine
Strange fish pulled by an invisible thread
Forests of seaweed growing from sugar-candy rocks
An eel whose tail was almost too far away to remember
And sea anemones which looked like pink palm trees swaying in the wind
Swimmy saw a school of fish just like his own, hiding in the rocks and weeds
He said, "Let’s go and swim and play, there’s lots of great things to see!"
But they said, "No, we can’t heed your call
If we go out the big fish will eat us all"
Swimmy said, "No, I’ve got a plan, if you’ll all just listen to me"
(Chorus)
He showed them how to swim all together, each one had a role to play
And when they learned to swim like one giant fish,
you know that it was a great day
On their own they would be eaten
But all together they couldn’t be beaten
So they swam in the morning and the midday sun,
and they chased the big fish away
(Chorus)
