We’re Writing a Musical!

We are so excited to be accepted as one of PLAYA‘s Artists in Residence. PLAYA is a retreat center located on the edge of the Great Basin in the outback of Oregon. The mission of PLAYA is to “provide space, solitude and a creative community to residents working in the arts and sciences, encouraging dialogue to bring positive change to the environment and the world.”

We will spend two weeks working on our new musical for kids called The World is Not Your Garbage Can. The topic of the musical is about working together to clean up our world. We’ve already written and recorded several of the songs, including “The World is Not Your Garbage Can“, “Treehugger“, “I’ve Gotta Hand it to Mom” and “We’re All in this Together.” Last spring we worked with 2nd graders at Eastwood Elementary in Oberlin, OH to write some additional songs and work out more ideas for the show. We will be writing the book as well as more songs for the show. While we’re at PLAYA we’ll visit a local high school and do a reading with the theater class. Next year, we will workshop and edit the show, and look for places to get it performed!

We will be at PLAYA from December 5 -16. If you are in that region, there will be a “PLAYA Presents” event on December 10, during which you can meet us and the other resident artists and see what we’re all working on. If you’d like more information about the place, visit their website at www.playasummerlake.org. They will have our bio up in the near future. We promise to take lots of pictures and some videos of this remote and beautiful area of our country.
